Women’s Bible Study

This week and next the ladies will delving into one of the most beloved chapters in all Scripture, Luke 15. Was there ever a chapter more perfectly illustrating how the Lord loves to seek and save that which is lost, and how he rejoices with the angels when the lost are found? Come, let’s dig into it together!

  1. Dear Sisters,

Tuesday we had such a rich time in the Word. But it was a challenging time too. It is for that reason that I want to urge you to continue mediating upon the verses we read together, and continue thinking about what Jesus was saying. I feel there is great depth in this text, and deserves further consideration.

I am referring, especially, to the verses that Jesus spoke about the cost of being his disciple (Luke 14:25ff). He didn’t just talk about the blessings of belonging to Him, he wanted us to understand the great cost of so great a privilege. Notice that He then goes on to tell three parables about something that was lost and what it meant to the owner when it was found. Could it be that He wanted us to appreciate the immeasurable value of knowing Him and becoming one of His, the value to us and the value to Him.

Yes, Jesus definitely did get everyone’s attention when he told the large crowds following him that if anyone does not hate his spouse, children, brothers and sisters, even his own life, they could not be his disciple. Strange words from someone who spoke of honoring father and mother, loving our neighbor, and even loving our enemies.

As we meditate on these words in the coming week, and read on into chapter 15 of Luke, I pray that we will gain deeper understanding of this strange teaching and the parables that follow. And as we ‘feed upon’ these words of Jesus, may they come alive to us and help us know Jesus better as His words become part of us.

Blessings to each one of you!
